This map was created to help individuals and communities in Ireland to locate publicly accessible Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Please note that while this map is based on the most up-to-date local information available, we cannot guarantee the accuracy, availability, or accessibility of any AED listed.

We encourage everyone to take a moment to locate their nearest AED and check its condition in person — it could save a life one day. But you can help! Download the Skillwise App and add an AED on the go. You can also confirm AEDs if you see on - and become a verified user to add more AEDs and get additional rights & access for the App!

Tips for Identifying and Checking an AED

When you find your nearest AED, here’s what to look out for:

✅ Is it clearly visible and easy to access in an emergency?

✅ Is it in date? (Pads and batteries have expiration dates and must be replaced regularly.)

✅ Are the pads and batteries fully charged? (Some AEDs are solar-powered or battery-operated — check the indicator light if present.)

✅ Is the AED cabinet locked or alarmed? (Many make a loud alarm sound when opened – this is normal and should never deter you from using it in an emergency.)

For AED Owners and Site Managers

If you are responsible for maintaining a public or private AED, please ensure:

  • 🔋 Batteries are charged or regularly replaced.

  • 📆 Pads are in date and suitable for both adults and children, if possible.

  • 🧰 The AED bag contains essential items, including:

    • Medical scissors (to cut clothing)

    • Disposable gloves

    • A CPR face shield or mask

    • A small towel or cloth (to dry the chest)

    • A razor (to shave chest hair if needed)

Regularly inspect your AED station and consider registering it with national or local AED networks to make it more discoverable.

In an Emergency: How to Use an AED

If you witness someone collapse or find an unconscious person:

  1. Call emergency services (112 or 999).

  2. Send someone to get the nearest AED or grab it yourself if alone.

  3. Turn on the AED — it will talk you through every step.

  4. Follow the voice prompts exactly — it tells you when to attach pads, when to stand back (!), whether to shock, and when to perform CPR.

Don’t be afraid — the AED will not deliver a shock unless it is needed.
