Aim

The aim of this First Aid Response Recertification course is to refresh and update learners’ knowledge and practical skills so they can continue to act effectively as a First Aid Responder in the workplace or community, in line with PHECC standards.

Objectives

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess and manage life-threatening and non-life-threatening conditions until emergency medical services arrive

  • Provide effective CPR and AED use for adults, children, and infants

  • Recognise and respond appropriately to medical emergencies such as heart attack, stroke, seizure, asthma, diabetes, and shock

  • Manage injuries including bleeding, burns, fractures, and environmental conditions (hypothermia/hyperthermia)

  • Care for an unconscious patient safely

  • Communicate and record relevant information clearly

  • Demonstrate composure, competence, and self-confidence while understanding their limits as a responder

Assessment & Certification

  • Assessment: 20-question multiple-choice exam and practical skills assessment

  • Certification: PHECC First Aid Responder Certificate (valid for 2 years)

  • Participants must demonstrate competence in First Aid Response (FAR) and Cardiac First Response (CFR) skills

Course Duration

2 Days
9:30 am – 3:30 pm each day

Learners should allow additional time before the final day for:

  • Reviewing notes (approx. 4 hours)

  • Revising FAR and CFR skills (approx. 2 hours)

Access & Requirements

To participate, learners must:

  • Hold a valid First Aid Response certificate (within 2 years of issue)

  • Have a reasonable level of English (CEFR B2+ or Junior Certificate level)

Delivery Options

  • In-person sessions at our Roscommon Town training venue

  • On-site delivery for workplaces or groups (minimum 5 participants)
