Course Description
The Cardiac First Response (Community) – Half Day Course equips participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills to respond confidently to cardiac and medical emergencies in the home, workplace, or wider community. This PHECC-certified course focuses on hands-on, scenario-based training, ensuring learners can act calmly, safely, and effectively until emergency services arrive. Aim of the course: - To provide learners with the skills and confidence to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies, particularly cardiac arrest, heart attack, and stroke. - On completion of this course, participants will be able to: - Assess an emergency scene safely and effectively - Perform adult and child CPR - Recognise and respond to cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, and choking - Demonstrate safe use and awareness of an Automated External - Defibrillator (AED) - Place a patient in the recovery position - Provide basic patient care until professional help arrives - Act within their scope of training in community and workplace settings Course content includes: - Scene assessment and personal safety - Adult & child CPR - AED awareness and demonstration - Responding to choking, heart attack, stroke & cardiac arrest - Recovery position - Basic patient care until emergency services arrive - Assessment & certification - Practical skills demonstration - Short multiple-choice assessment - PHECC Cardiac First Response (Community) Certificate - Certification valid for 2 years Course duration: 4 hours (half day) Delivery options: - On-site training at your venue (schools, community halls, workplaces, clubs) - Public courses at our Roscommon Town training location Who is this course for? - Community and volunteer responder groups - Sports clubs and coaches - Workplaces and public venues - Security staff and event personnel - Healthcare-adjacent roles (pharmacies, clinics, care settings) - Parents, teachers, and members of the general public - Family members of people with known heart conditions. This course is also required for community groups seeking to register as a Cardiac First Responder Group with the National Ambulance Service. General Booking Policy
Half Day – Cardiac First Response (Community) Bookings are confirmed once payment is received. If your plans change, please let us know as early as possible. A minimum of 14 days’ notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling. Where sufficient notice is given, participants may transfer to a future course date, subject to availability. Due to the practical nature of this training and the preparation of equipment, venues, and certification, refunds are not available for late cancellations, non-attendance, or partial attendance. If SkillWise Training is required to cancel or reschedule a course due to unforeseen circumstances, participants will be offered a full refund or transfer to an alternative date. Places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. For group or community bookings, substitutions may be permitted with prior notice, provided all participant details are supplied before the course date.
